The History of STR Global

Combining the expertise of two companies

STR Global was formed in 2008 and combines the expertise of The Bench and HotelBenchmark.

HotelBenchmark was formed under the name “Hotel Industry Benchmark Survey” by the hospitality experts within Anderson in 1996; the team moved with the Deloitte/Anderson merger in 2002 to Deloitte. The HotelBenchmark Survey covered all major international markets outside North-America and provided monthly statistics and MarketShare reports, as well as an annual profitability survey to its members and clients. A foray into Daily HotelBenchmark and HealthClubBenchmark was taken and pursued until its merger with STR Global.

Overlook Hospitality Management in Stockholm were developing new concepts and brands for the hotel industry and started The Bench as a special market data project for the local hotel community in 2001. The daily service caught on very quickly and in five years The Bench grew into the premier supplier of daily market data for hotels in the world, with over 3,000 hotels in Europe and Asia Pacific as clients.
